STATEMENT FROM THE ROMAN CATHOLIC PARISH – ARCIDIACONATE OF KUTNÁ HORA
In connection with the planned Pride parade in Kutná Hora, people are contacting our parish to ask about the position of the Catholic Church on this event. We do not want to judge individual people or get involved in social disputes. However, we would like to recall what the teachings of the Catholic Church are based on and what view of human beings we remain faithful to.
We believe that every person is created in God's image and has an inviolable dignity. People of all sexual orientations should be treated with respect, compassion, and kindness. It is necessary to avoid any hint of unfair discrimination against them (cf. CCC 2358).
Pope Francis has repeatedly emphasized this, saying at the World Youth Day in Lisbon: "In the Church, there is a place for everyone, everyone, everyone."
At the same time, the Catholic Church, with fidelity to the Gospel, proclaims that marriage is a unique and lifelong union of a man and a woman, based on mutual love, faithfulness, and openness to the acceptance of children. This view is not an expression of rejection of anyone, but stems from the biblical understanding of human beings and the unbroken tradition of the Church.
Therefore, we do not want to pit people against each other or get involved in cultural or ideological clashes. The mission of the Church is not to create further divisions in society, but to bring Christ's Gospel, which combines truth with love and mercy.
As Christians, we are called to bear witness primarily through our lives – through fidelity in marriage, selfless love in families, respect for every person, and a willingness to engage in dialogue even where our views differ. We pray for peace in our city, for mutual respect among people, and for wisdom so that in all encounters we can be witnesses of Christ's love and truth.
